“Contemporary Soundscapes”, the new quartet by Pietro Tonolo, explores contemporary soundscapes where composition and improvisation coexist in a finely balanced polyrhythmic language.
Born from the meeting of four strong voices of contemporary jazz, the ensemble alternates original compositions with reinterpretations of famous standards, creating soundscapes where tradition meets the present in a continuous process of collective creation.
Saxophonist and composer (Mirano, 1959), Pietro Tonolo is one of the leading figures in European jazz. Since the 1980s, he has collaborated with major Italian musicians such as Enrico Rava and Franco D’Andrea. Internationally active as well (from the Gil Evans Orchestra to Paul Motian’s Electric Bebop Band), he has played with Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Steve Swallow, Joe Chambers, and Gil Goldstein.
He has recorded over a hundred albums and performed at the most prestigious international festivals. He is also a respected composer and educator, with projects ranging from contemporary music to lyrical jazz.
The third edition of "Jazz in Valle" continues its musical journey in search of new sounds, offering the passionate audience – who have followed us since 2023 – outstanding concerts by top-level Italian ensembles. Three nights, four groups, the Oratory façade as the backdrop… let the 2025 edition begin!
