Sguardi oltre la valle is a project dedicated to the collective memory of Vallebona, born from encounter and dialogue with the local community. Through the voices of women and men who lived in a different time, the exhibition offers an authentic view of village life.
Conceived as a dispersed exhibition, the route winds through the village’s narrow streets and touches eight symbolic places of memory, each linked to a theme of everyday life in the past. The stops along the route are:
Piazza della Libertà – Dance
Piazza Marconi – Traditions
Piazza Rossi Nicola – School
Via Roma – War
Via Ca’ Ruta, Calabria – Houses
Piazzetta Gentile – Cultivation
Via Scudier – Workshops and shops
Fontane Vecchie – The washhouse
Each location is accompanied by archival photographs and narrative texts, the result of the research and listening work carried out by curator Lorena Viale. The stories can also be accessed via QR codes in Italian and English.
A central element of the project is the photographic installation featuring portraits of the village’s elderly residents which, through their gazes, tell the story, dignity and beauty of a life lived. Taken by Gloria Siccardi and exhibited along Via Conciliazione, these portraits represent the ideal starting point for the visit.
Originally conceived as a temporary exhibition, today Sguardi oltre la valle has become a permanent exhibition, accessible throughout the year, keeping alive the connection between memory, place and community.
Vallebona offers a unique experience for your holidays, it is a picturesque place rich in history, culture, and natural beauty; a peaceful and authentic environment.
